Aslo I do have a 000-default.conf file but the above 'code' isn't in there either. EDIT: I added the following to my httpd.conf file: RewriteLog "/tmp/rewrite.log" RewriteLogLevel 9 The file is created when I restart apache, but nothing ever goes in there when I go to So, it should look like http://localhost/test or http://example.org/test. One final piece of advice: since you have control over the VirtualHost sections in the main Apache configuration, it would be faster to put these rules there.
