If the machine you thought it used to be paired to is really no longer there, then it can't be interfering. Pressing the button on the right side of the trackpad doesn't make the device come back.
It's possible that I'm missing something, but it seems like you're just stating a preference for keyboards with longer key travel and a layout that you like.
