Funny you should mention Windows Media Player[/b]. no VLC in the mixers.. It makes the issue that QuickTime can't play AVI quite simple. I have experienced something very similar and the symptoms were: Starting iTunes resulted error -200 Quicktime refused to play any AVI files (which it previously did) No sound in ANY media check over here

Perion fixed it....whew! Convert Avi To Mov and if you do, it should work fine after you close/reopen the program.thanks a ton for the easy quick-fix!! Excellent application. Similarly, this application helps users in repairing AVI file only plays audio but no video due to codec issues.

I have an avi file with no sound. Daniel: install the Perian codec then use MpegStreamClip to convert the clip. Go to Edit Preference > QuickTime Preferences to get to the QuickTime Preferences window On the Audio tab: set the rate to 32 kHz, size to 16bit, and channels to stereo this content VLC is an okay alternative, but I feel it plays a bit too chunky, and fast forwarding or rewinding is simply a pain in the ass.

This will lead to poor file rendering, hence the absence of sound. I needed that device so much, and finally I got it... The files are MTS files but I doubt that that matters.
