Does anyone have any idea as to what the problem could be? This has been proven to be the solution countless times. Otherwise it may be your thermostat that is shot, in which case the temp. I'm going to hold off on replacing the temp gauge and sensors as I will likely need to do the timing kit in the spring. Audi A6 Temperature Gauge Not Working I miss my high mileage Golf MKIV. When I took it out, a bit of coolant did pour out. As soon as you clear the fault code with your VAGCOM etc, your temp gauge will spring to life (if engine is warm).
Seemed a little extreme, but it works now. Another is the heater core which serves as a secondary, albeit smaller, radiator. Once i replace that if it doesnt work il go for the thermostat. If the needle starts to climb then change the thermostat. This seems to be undocumented, and as to which engines in what cars play this game, who knows. I love the looks and style of the Audi cars. If this happens a second time, then you will get a yellow light on your insturment cluster, indicating a an engine malfunction.
Sometimes it sits at 90c even before the igntion is on! I didn't have the right coolant to top it off so I just ignored it and assumed the sensor was bad. My temp gauge is not reading hot but going the other direction. But its usually the thermostat playing up, opening too soon.

Still on the fence about going to Ross or staying with VAD.
